how do i keep my outside birds safe at night ?

On February 17, 2013, in Chinese Art, by admin

there chinese painted quail
do they perch

i have an upturned bucket with a hole in it will they nest and sleep in it

i will provide nesting material

its in a non portable outdoor cage
will this be warm enough

well if they are in a cage you mean?
if they are, just put a tarpoolan over the top of the cage.
but if they are outside in a little cage that is portable, you could just bring them inside and then you put a blanket over the cage to stop them waking up due to distraction and then waking you up :)
that’s what i used to do but now we have a sort of aviary thing and they are safe. you don’t really have to worry about them being safe if they are in an avary.

    ITS BEST TO BRING THEM INSIDE AND MAKE SURE THAT ITS NOT TOO COLD IN THE HOUSE, {OWNER OF TWO OUTSIDE QUAKER PARROTS}

    make some kind of house for them. something small and something with a stick they can roost on. make sure it has a bottom on it and put it up on a pallet so its off the ground. make sure you put them in there every night. its also a good place to keep their food so it doesnt get wet. anything can work. from a small used shed to a dog house. you just want to keep safe from coyotes, weasels, racoons, rats and other night animals. also beware of hawks in the day time.

    Hi,
    quail can withstand the cold but its the elements you need to keep out, i have an aviary with finches etc in and during the winter i put a sheet of clear polythene over the front to keep some heat in and to keep the rain and wind out.
